During the meeting, the parties discussed support for Ukraine in the defence sector, the implementation of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Ukraine’s path to the European Union.
First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that he highly appreciates France’s steady and consistent support in a very difficult time for Ukraine. Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to the French Parliament for adopting important political decisions on the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people and on the recognition of the wagner group as a terrorist organisation.
“Support for Ukraine in the defence sector is crucial in countering russian armed aggression,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed, thanking for the decision to transfer SCALP missiles to Ukraine. He also noted that he expects a decision on new deliveries to be made.
In addition, with regard to the implementation of the President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s Peace Formula, Ruslan Stefanchuk informed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had taken patronage of the fifth point of the Formula – “Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity”. At the same time, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine called on France to join its implementation. He expressed hope that a summit would be held on the basis of the Peace Formula to discuss the issue of reforming the global security architecture: “The position of the G7 countries, which are ready to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, is very important in this regard.”
“The work on further implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations does not stop. Ukraine expects that negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU will begin at the end of this year,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said, adding that he also hopes for Ukraine’s support during the NATO Summit in Washington.
