The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a working meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Recean, who arrived in Kyiv on a support visit to mark the Independence Day of Ukraine.
The two sides discussed a number of issues, including the important issue of starting negotiations on accession to the European Union before the end of this year.
“The Ukrainian people are determined to defend the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. And in this struggle, we feel the support of the entire civilised world, including neighbouring Moldova,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed.
At the same time, Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that despite the ongoing russian aggression, Ukraine is doing everything possible to implement the recommendations of the European Commission as soon as possible.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed hope that Brussels would support the decision to start accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova by the end of this year: “And then the European integration direction will become another area for interaction between the legislative and executive branches of power of both countries.”
In addition, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine thanked for the recognition by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.
Ruslan Stefanchuk also expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Moldova for opening its borders to temporarily displaced Ukrainian citizens from the first days of full-scale aggression.
“More than 80,000 Ukrainians have found refuge in your country. For both Ukraine and Moldova, the highest value is a human being, his or her life and health,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk extended an invitation to the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform, which will be held this autumn in Prague.
In conclusion, Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Moldova for its solidarity and support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, stressing that Ukraine also supports the territorial integrity of Moldova.
