The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a final meeting with the President of the Jean Monnet Foundation, the former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox, who visited Ukraine on a several-day visit, and the leadership of the National Democratic Institute in Ukraine.

The parties summed up the results of the visit and outlined further plans for cooperation to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ukrainian Parliament.

In particular, they discussed Ukraine’s European integration direction and the main priorities of the parliamentary vector on its way to the EU.

“European integration is a strategic priority for Ukraine, and we support it in all possible ways, including a constructive dialogue to achieve political consensus,” the First Vice Speaker said.

At the same time, he stressed that the path to EU membership outlines certain obligations and tasks for our country and its democratic institutions.

“And the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to fulfil them in order to achieve the goal of becoming an official member of the European family,” Oleksandr Korniienko said and thanked his European colleagues for their attention to Ukraine and assistance in approximation and adaptation to the EU standards.

In addition, the parties discussed preparations for the ninth round of the Jean Monnet Dialogues – possible topics, key ideas and expected results – and agreed to continue working in a working format.
