The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.
First of all, the First Vice-Speaker informed his colleagues about another terrorist act of russia – the deliberate blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which caused a man-made disaster and ecocide not only in Ukraine but also around the world. He also reported on the consequences of russia’s shelling of Kryvyi Rih last night, stressing that the enemy continues to shell and kill Ukrainians.
In addition, Oleksandr Korniienko told his Czech colleagues about the steps already taken by Ukraine on the path to European integration, in particular, about the adopted draft laws.
“Speaking of EU integration, we have already implemented seven recommendations of the European Commission by 99.9 per cent. But we understand that in this case, we need to fulfil them by 110 per cent,” he said, referring to the recently adopted law extending the transition period for Ukrainian education for national minority students.
The parties also discussed the continuation of military support for Ukraine, the establishment of a special tribunal for russia’s crimes, further sanctions against the aggressor country, and Ukraine’s path to NATO.
“Ukraine has a high level of trust in its international partners. And such close friends as the Czech Republic, who really advocate our activities, are our closest reliable team in the NATO issue,” Oleksandr Korniienko said.
The First Vice-Speaker expressed gratitude to the Czech Republic for all the assistance provided, in particular, for important steps to support Ukraine: the recognition of the russian regime as a terrorist one and the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
“We highly appreciate all the efforts and steps of the Czech Republic aimed at supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country in the face of russian aggression,” he stressed. Oleksandr Kornienko also noted that just two weeks after his visit to the Czech Republic, the President of the Senate, Milos Vystrcil, addressed the Ukrainian Parliament.
“We are very active in working with the countries of the Global South. And we are grateful to our Czech colleagues who always support us in this,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament.
In conclusion, on behalf of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniienko thanked the Czech MPs for participating in the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform and expressed hope for fruitful work at the Second Summit to be held in Prague at the initiative of the Czech Republic.
For their part, the Czech colleagues stressed the inadmissibility of the horrors committed by the russian federation, in particular, the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the possible impact of this terrorist act on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. They also noted that the purpose of the visit was to make sure that the Czech Republic’s assistance is truly important and effective for Ukraine.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament – the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union Vadym Halaichuk, the member of the Committee on Budget Rostyslav Tistyk, and member of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Olha Rudenko.
