During his official visit to the Republic of Poland, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
“Poland is one of the main countries among the European Union in terms of assistance to Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed first of all. He welcomed the readiness of the Republic of Poland to train Ukrainian pilots and expressed hope that this process would start as soon as possible. The parties also raised the issue of enhancing security support and accelerating the supply of heavy weapons.
“It is important to resolve the issue of russia’s circumvention of sanctions, to impose a full energy embargo and to impose sanctions against rosatom,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed during the meeting, calling for the extension of sanctions against the russian federation. “Sanctions should be comprehensive, those that will cause economic pain to russia and prevent it from continuing this terrible war,” he said, adding that it is important to resolve the issue of russia’s circumvention of sanctions through other countries, in particular on energy.
In addition, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine called for support for the peace formula by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. “It is extremely important for us that the peace that will be in Ukraine is fair. A peace that will enable the whole world to say that the values for which Ukrainian soldiers are fighting and defending on the front line today are the values of the whole world.”
“Ukraine expects to hear a clear answer at the Summit in Vilnius regarding Ukraine’s further membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation,” stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Ruslan Stefanchuk also touched upon the issue of rebuilding Ukraine. “We have to develop the necessary mechanisms to rebuild Ukraine in order to restore what russia has destroyed,” he said.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Poland for supporting Ukraine in countering russian aggression and for its activity in defending Ukraine’s interests in the international arena, as well as for the military, financial, humanitarian assistance and shelter for Ukrainian refugees.
