The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized this during a working meeting with the President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis.
The First Vice Speaker expressed gratitude that Estonia was one of the first partners in providing defense support to Ukraine.
The parties also discussed Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration. “Our goal in the European integration track is to start negotiations on EU accession this year and we expect an interim positive assessment from the European Commission,” said Oleksandr Korniienko. He added that Ukraine is doing everything possible to complete the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations as soon as possible and continues comprehensive reforms.
In addition, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed the President of the Republic of Estonia about Ukraine’s integration into the Alliance and expectations from the decisions of the Vilnius Summit. “We count on Estonia’s leadership in achieving important results of the summit – we need a clear signal in Vilnius on Ukraine’s accession to NATO,” he emphasized.
During the meeting, the parties also touched upon the issue of rebuilding Ukraine: “Estonia became the first country to start practical post-war reconstruction of one of Ukraine’s regions, namely the construction of a modular kindergarten and other facilities in Zhytomyr region,” Oleksandr Korniienko suggested considering the possibility of the country’s participation in the restoration of other infrastructure projects.
In conclusion. the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine invited President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis to visit Ukraine.
