The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a videoconference with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile Vlado Mirosevic Verdugo.
In particular, he thanked Chile for its continued support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity since the first days of russia’s full-scale invasion.
“Ukraine views Chile as an important partner of Ukraine in South America. We are very interested in further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation with Chile and strengthening of bilateral relations between our countries,” the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized.
He also thanked for the humanitarian aid already provided and called on Chile to join the allies that provide military support to Ukraine.
In addition, the parties discussed political issues important for Ukraine, in particular, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized that Ukraine is defending not only its state, but also global democratic values.
“Chile has a history of fighting for these values. That is why I would be grateful to the Chamber of Deputies of Chile for adopting a separate resolution condemning russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and recognizing russia as an aggressor country and a terrorist accomplice,” Ruslan Stefanchuk called.
During the conversation, they also discussed Chile’s accession to sanctions against russia, in particular, economic and financial restrictions imposed by the international community; implementation of Ukraine’s peace initiative – the President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s peace formula and Chile’s participation in its implementation; creation of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine for russia as an aggressor country that must be punished in accordance with international law; Chile’s participation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and patronage of certain infrastructure projects in one of the regions that have been affected by the war.
In conclusion, Ruslan Stefanchuk invited his colleague to visit Ukraine and take part in the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform in October in Prague.
“I am convinced that despite the distance of thousands of kilometers between our countries, we speak the language of common values – the values of justice and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. We equally want peace and development. Ukraine stands on the side of good, and together we can do everything to win this war,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized in conclusion.
Vlado Mirosevic Verdugo, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile, thanked his Ukrainian colleague for the invitation and noted that Chile was one of the first countries to respond to russia’s terrible aggression against Ukraine, and the Chilean people have been, are and will be in solidarity with Ukraine.
“Chile is a country that respects international law, and russia’s aggression against Ukraine is very dangerous for the entire international community. That is why Chile will stand by the values of the European community, international law and human rights,” emphasized Vlado Mirosevic Verdugo.
He also assured his Ukrainian counterpart that Chile will continue to strengthen its assistance, both humanitarian and in financing reconstruction projects in Ukraine, and will use all its influence to stop russian aggression against Ukraine.
“Chile is a small country, but we always stand against tyranny. We are a country that has and feels obligations to the democratic world and a responsibility to prevent wars. That is why we promise you our support and give you our word that we will work to establish peace,” Vlado Mirosevic Verdugo emphasized.
