Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: The Regions do not need Political and Propaganda Agreements, but an Actual Support through the Development and Implementation of Special Governmental Programs

On Monday, at the press conference in the city of Uzhhorod, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine answered the question whether Ukrainian politicians knew the country and stated that "to cognize Ukraine, to study its strong aspects and capabilities, one must meet and speak to the residents of this country, sharing their problems, concerns and aspirations".

Judging from his own experience of meetings similar to the one held in Zakarpattia region, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that "speaking with people in the streets and at the community centres, one starts to understand them and perceive the capabilities of every territory and region".

V.Lytvyn deems necessary to summarize this experience: "It is important to analyze everything and develop a policy of synthesizing nature".

As far as Zakarpattia region was concerned, the Head of the Parliament stated that "this region bears an imprint of history people have seen different regimes, lived in different governmental formations, hence, it is understandable that they are craving for peace and predictability".

V.Lytvyn believes that the regions are neglected under the present-day conditions, and their peculiarities are not taken into account. "The regions do not need political and propaganda agreements, but an actual support through the development and implementation of special governmental programs, - stated the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Then every region will work efficiently for the sake of the State".

V.Lytvyn commented upon the potential threat of the environmental disaster due to the accumulation of a large amount of unknown chemical substances in Zakarpattia village of Khudlevo. V.Lytvyn informed about his intention to address the Prosecution General of Ukraine with a request to investigate the matter urgently.
