The Ukrainian parliamentary delegation headed by the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk together with MPs Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk and Viktoriia Kinzburska met with their colleagues from the Ukraine-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group.
On the Israeli side, the group is headed by Yoel Edelstein and Ze’ev Elkin, both natives of Ukraine. “At the beginning of the year, they visited Ukraine and saw with their own eyes the consequences of russia’s war crimes,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
“We discussed the urgent issue of deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation and involving Israel in the sanctions policy against the aggressor country of russia. We also raised the issue of the need for closer Ukrainian-Israeli cooperation within the UN and other leading international platforms,” the Vice Speaker emphasized.
The Ukrainian delegation called on its Knesset colleagues to join the international campaign to return tens of thousands of Ukrainian children illegally taken to russia and to adopt a statement in the Israeli Parliament.
“We have to understand that Israel plays an important role in the global security system and the UN. It is a parliamentary republic. The Knesset has a major role in forming the government, making decisions and developing the state policy of this country,” emphasized Olena Kondratiuk.
The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk also emphasized that establishing permanent cooperation and dialogue between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Knesset of Israel will play a crucial role in strengthening interstate relations and bringing together two peoples who share many common challenges.
