In continuation of the dialogue on the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Rebuilding”, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held a working meeting with the Director of the Council of Europe’s Programme Coordination Directorate Claus Neukirch.
“Further work with the Council of Europe on projects within the framework of the Action Plan should meet the needs of Ukrainians – both in the context of a full-scale invasion and post-war reconstruction. And it is important for us to meet the needs of the people at various levels,” Oleksandr Korniienko stressed first of all.
He also noted that the Action Plan should become a tool for achieving many other objectives, including ensuring the proper functioning of state institutions, good governance and democratic elections, especially given the large number of displaced persons.
“We continue our European integration track, in particular, discussing important legislative initiatives in which the Council of Europe supports us,” the First Vice Speaker stressed, expressing hope for further close cooperation with the Directorate for Programme Coordination and the Council of Europe.
“If the Council of Europe could become a bridge that would help our staff to interact properly with donors or prepare relevant applications, it would significantly contribute to the speed of restoring and strengthening the twinning between Ukrainian and European communities,” said Vitalii Bezhin, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Administrative and Territorial Structure of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning.
