The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with Petra Gombalova Kyslingerova, the Head of the Ukraine Section of the European External Action Service.

The parties discussed topical issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.

First of all, the First Vice-Speaker expressed his gratitude to the Council of Foreign Ministers, chaired by the High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell, for its support and position in favour of Ukraine.

“It is symbolic that on the day when the EU allocates us another tranche of assistance worth 1.5 billion euros, we in the Parliament continue to work on European integration,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, thanking at the same time for the assistance to Ukrainian refugees who feel great support from the EU and the entire European family.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine informed the audience about the current situation in Ukraine: “the russian federation continues to terrorise the Ukrainian civilian population, attacking critical infrastructure and residential areas”.

“Weapons are not a charity, but a contribution to the security of both Ukraine and abroad, particularly in Europe. Continued timely military and technical assistance from our partners is necessary to end the war in 2023,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that Ukraine expects the issues with the supply of ammunition to be resolved as soon as possible.

He also stressed that Ukraine continues its European integration path. The Chairmen of the relevant committees, Anastasia Radina on anti-corruption policy and Denys Maslov on legal policy, who were present at the meeting, confirmed their willingness and readiness to meet all the challenges along the way.

“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will play a key role in the process of adapting national legislation to the European one” said the First Vice Speaker.

He also said that each parliamentary committee now has a specialised subcommittee on European integration, and each legislative initiative will be considered in terms of its compliance with a particular European policy.

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the European Union for its steadfast stance on russian aggression and for making important decisions in support of Ukraine.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament: the Chair of the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy Anastasia Radina, the Chair of the Committee on Legal Policy Denys Maslov, and the Chair of the Subcommittee on Regional and Cross-Border Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU Member States of the Committee on Integration of Ukraine into the European Union Olena Vintoniak.
