Mykola Tomenko: A Pledge is a Tool of a Civilized Election System
"Another wave of the discussion concerning adequacy and effectiveness of the regulation concerning the increase of the pledge has been stirred after the promulgation of the Law "On the president of Ukraine", - stated Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
As the initiator of the said regulation, M.Tomenko stated that it was an inherent feature of the election legislation of all the civilized countries. "A pledge does not affirm the prosperity of a politician. A pledge testifies of the fact, whether a politician is publicly supported", - he stated.
The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the future candidates for presidency with a request not to complain of the legislation, but work with their admirers to obtain their assistance.
M.Tomenko stated: "Taking into account a special political mentality of the Ukrainian nation, this pledge will reduce the number of volunteers to run for presidency, as well as compensate at least a part of expenses for the elections to the State budget".
