Mykola Tomenko: It is the Ukrainian Nation, not the Foreign Politicians, who must elect the President of Ukraine
Ukrainian-Russian relations and possible influence of other countries on the presidential election campaign were the main topics of a political talk show "Maidan. Lider Natsiyi" at Channel 5 with the participation of Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
M.Tomenko stated: "Unfortunately, the presidential election campaign tends to be exploited for the influence of other countries on its course". He stated that the address of Dmitriy Medvedev, President of Ukraine, adoption of the Law on defence at the First Reading, numerous declarations that Russia would cooperate with a new President of Ukraine served as an announcement of bidding for "a right" President of Ukraine for Russia.
According to M.Tomenko, strict observance of legislation on elections is of vital importance. Thus, he suggested that the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine informed the Russian TV channels and mass media of other countries broadcast in Ukraine about the necessity of observing the legislation on elections in the period of the presidential election campaign. Mykola Tomenko also reminded of Clause 64, pursuant to which, the persons non-residents of Ukraine are prohibited to canvass.
"It would be perfect, if there were no appeals for the revision of basic priorities of Ukrainian foreign policy, but a discussion concerning the best action plan to overcome the socio-economic crisis", - stated M.Tomenko. He called on the journalists and experts with a request to defend the framework of the discussion and dwell upon the urgent issues of the socio-economic life while speaking with the candidates for presidency.
