Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, deems necessary to enhance competitive ability and prestige of the Ukrainian language.

According to V.Lytvyn, "Ukrainian language has low competitive ability, and the authorities do nothing to improve the situation, as the speculations around the language issues are not beneficial for the Ukrainian language".

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls for restoring the Law on Languages of the Ukrainian SSR, as he considers this Law as one of the best documents dedicated to the said issue.

"People should have a possibility to talk the language acceptable for them, and simultaneously pursuit a State policy in the language sphere, instead of the policy of electoral leaders who do not speak any language perfectly", - stated the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament.

As far as the relations between Russia and Ukraine were concerned, V.Lytvyn stressed the necessity to hold a calm and considerate dialogue. He reminded that he initiated holding of a joint sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Panel on cooperation between The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation with the participation of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Chairman of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and the Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
