The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with representatives of the European Parliament’s Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, headed by Iratxe Garcia Perez.

During the meeting, the parties discussed, among other things, the current security situation in Ukraine, russian propaganda and information warfare, particularly in the Global South and Latin America, Ukraine’s current and future steps towards the EU membership, as well as prospects for enhanced cooperation.

“This step is a very significant and powerful signal of political support. The political group demonstrates support for Ukraine and since the beginning of the large-scale invasion has been actively working on developing a clear EU position to counter this aggression,” Oleksandr Korniienko said, adding that this was not the first meeting with the Group’s President, Iratxe Garcia Perez, and the Group’s coordinator, Tonino Picula.

In addition, the First Vice-Speaker noted that Ukraine is grateful for the military and financial support provided under the new macro-financial assistance package: “We hope for further support from the European Union this year and next year.”

“We need not only a steady and timely supply of international military assistance, but also proper and timely training of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Oleksandr Korniienko stressed, noting that the training organised within the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine is a very important factor in this regard.

In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his hope that this year should be a decisive and victorious one for Ukraine: “Only Ukraine’s victory will ensure a lasting and just peace, guarantee global security, respect for the UN Charter and international law.”

The meeting was also attended by the Ukrainian MPs: Vadym Strunevych, Volodymyr Ariev, Hryhorii Nemyria, Yuliia Klymenko, Anna Skorokhod and Pavlo Bakunets.
