The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Foreign Interference in All Democratic Processes in the EU, including Disinformation.
“The information front is a separate battlefield for the truth. I am glad to have the opportunity to speak personally and directly about the needs, the situation and the truth. The truth that is happening in our country and the lies that are being spread to destabilize and conceal their crimes,” emphasized Oleksandr Korniienko.
He said that during the meeting they discussed cooperation aimed at overcoming the information warfare and propaganda of the russian federation: “We have a strong position, which is known to the whole world, – peace and security in Ukraine, condemnation and cessation of hostilities on the territory of a sovereign state, full membership in the European Union.”
At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that in the first days of Russia's unprovoked war against Ukraine, Russian disinformation in Ukraine became widespread and aimed to undermine morale and resistance by spreading false claims about the surrender of the government and military losses. "The Ukrainian authorities, with the support of journalists and civil society, have been regularly informing the public about the latest developments and refuting these false claims," he said, expressing hope for further cooperation with the European Parliament on this issue.
“Ukraine is in the center of attention of the European Parliament during each plenary session, committee meetings and adoption of relevant decisions,” said the First Vice Speaker, adding that Ukraine feels that Europe stands by Ukraine in its struggle to protect European values.
In addition, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that the main priorities in cooperation with the European Parliament in the near future are the speedy receipt of the weapons Ukraine needs, strengthening international pressure on the aggressor and joining the European Union.
“Ukraine appreciates the support of Europe. Together we will overcome evil. Thank you for the meeting in the capital of an unbreakable state. It is valuable for us and important signals of support and assistance,” the First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized in conclusion.
The meeting was also attended by Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union.
