“We are talking about important things – about Ukraine on the sidelines of Davos. Each of the representatives of the Ukrainian delegation: the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrii Yermak and other representatives of our government deliver important messages: Ukraine needs peace and victory. We need help to end the war,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during the discussion “Rethinking International Security – Crisis of Institutions” at Ukraine House in Davos.
He noted that the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine had once again emphasized that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s “Peace Formula” is an effective mechanism for achieving peace in Ukraine and Europe.
“Ukraine needs effective measures. One of them is the creation of a Special International Tribunal to ensure that everyone responsible is held accountable for their crimes. This is about justice, so that everyone in the world understands that evil will not go unpunished,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.
“I head the Ukrainian delegation to ASEAN and the IPU. As part of our work, we deal with Africa, the Middle East and the Global South in general,” said the First Vice Speaker, adding that during these visits the delegation “talks about Ukraine, about our events, situation and position.” “We are beginning to be heard – and this is the main thing, but there is still a lot of work to be done to make those who abstain from important votes for our country change their minds.”
In addition, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament emphasized that, unfortunately, the world order is currently experiencing a crisis that causes imperfect work of international organizations, in particular, the UN: “While russia has invaded Ukraine and is killing and torturing people, the UN has not been able to give any substantive response to stop it.”
“When we first started talking about the need to reform the UN and the UN Security Council, everyone told us that it was impossible. However, on December 1, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution, which, among other things, states the illegitimacy of the presence of the russian federation in the UN and the need to reform it,” Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized, adding that in this resolution, the Parliament of Ukraine appeals to the parliaments and governments of foreign countries to take immediate measures to expel russia from the UN.
“We may be told that something is impossible. But we will not argue with words – we choose the language of action to prove the opposite. Ukrainians are unbreakable. They make the impossible possible. Three days last 330 days. The “second army of the world” may be the second, but it is the second from the end,” he said.
In conclusion, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized that Ukraine will continue to raise uncomfortable questions at other forums and meetings: “We will speak about Ukraine to be heard. We have a goal – the security of every Ukrainian, an independent Ukraine with unchanged borders. And the security of Ukraine is in the interests of the world, because it is their peace as well.”
