The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk commented on the latest decisions of the European parliaments on the air of the national telethon «United News».
According to him, inter-parliamentary diplomacy plays a significant role in making fateful decisions, regarding Ukraine, supporting the Ukrainian people in the fight against the aggressor and our European integration progress.
«This is an important decision for us to return to the big European family, which the Ukrainian people are heroically fighting for. European capitals have heard us, and Ukraine has become a candidate state. Such advocacy work is an integral component of our daily legislative activities, » Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized the role of parliamentary relations.
He stressed that the great work done recently by Ukrainian parliamentarians has already yielded results: the world governments and parliaments support us in decisions that were out of the question a few months ago.
«These are tectonic changes! What we were even afraid to talk about before. Now it is becoming a reality! The European Parliament decides to recognize the russian regime as a terrorist one; to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. This is repeated by other parliaments. It is important for us that Ukraine’s voice against russia as a hostile country that has committed aggression does not fade away in the world, » the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized adding that for this purpose Ukraine uses the inter-parliamentary instruments at full capacity.
In particular, according to him, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is working with world parliaments and governments on the main issues for our country today, during the war: recognition of the russian regime as a terrorist or state-sponsor of terrorism; recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people; development of a unified mechanism of compensation by russia for all the losses caused to Ukraine and bringing russia to justice; creation of a special tribunal for russia; exclusion of russia from all international organizations.
«Today our priority is to keep the issue of Ukraine on the international agenda. All decisions made today at the level of parliaments of foreign countries are a catalyst for us that we are moving on the right path. And I am convinced that we have a lot of friends, like-minded people and we will bring our work to completion, » the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized.
