Oleksandr Korniienko met with the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia

In the framework of the working visit headed by the Ukrainian delegation, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia (Riigikogu) Helir-Valdor Seeder. 

«Estonia is an example of a common desire to defeat the aggressor together with Ukraine!» emphasized Oleksandr Korniienko.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said that the Republic of Estonia is the first country he visited after the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the last one he is visiting this year.

«We have synchronized the clock of international cooperation together with the First Vice Speaker of the Riigikogu. His recent visit to Ukraine is another confirmation of the dynamism of our interparliamentary dialogue,» Oleksandr Korniienko noted.

In addition, the First Deputy expressed satisfaction with the intensity of bilateral cooperation between the countries at the inter-parliamentary level.

During the working meeting Olexandr Korniienko emphasized the main elements of ensuring the victory over russia. Firstly, it is the continuation of strengthening sanctions pressure against the russian federation. Secondly, it is the support of Ukraine with weapons. Thirdly, it is assistance on the energy front to overcome the consequences of massive missile strikes on infrastructure facilities.

«We are grateful to the Republic of Estonia for the substantial and powerful support of our state in the struggle for justice and against aggression!» the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed in conclusion. In particular, on April 21, 2022, the Riigikogu adopted a statement «On War Crimes and Genocide by the russian Federation in Ukraine» calling on national parliaments and international organizations to recognize the crime of genocide and support the investigation of all crimes, the prosecution of criminals and the establishment of an international court to bring the perpetrators to justice. In addition, on October 18, by an absolute majority of votes Estonian parliamentarians adopted a statement condemning the annexation of the territories of Ukraine and declared the russian regime terrorist.

The meeting was also attended by the Ukrainian side: the Chairman of the Group for Interparliamentary Relations with the Republic of Estonia Arsenii Pushkarenko, MPs of Ukraine: Vitalii Bezgin, Roman Hryshchuk and Pavlo Bakunets.

For reference. The First Deputy of Ukraine Olexandr Korniienko heading the Ukrainian delegation is on a working visit to the Republic of Estonia on December 15-17.

In the framework of the visit the meetings with the President of Estonia Alar Karis, the leadership of the Riigikogu and Estonian ministers are scheduled.
