During his working visit to Warsaw, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Elzbieta Witek.
At the beginning of the meeting Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that his visit to Warsaw is a visit of gratitude and respect to the Parliament of Poland and both its chambers – the Sejm and the Senate. After all, according to him, Poland was, is and remains “a great strategic and perhaps the main friend and comrade for Ukraine”.
The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament informed Ms. Marshal of the Sejm of the results of the 12th session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, the Senate and the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, where a powerful resolution was adopted, which will be crucial for the future of Ukraine.
“The main issue is the support of Ukraine in its movement towards the EU, NATO and joint resistance to russia. This is a very important document, the elaboration of which was attended by representatives of both the Senate and the Sejm of the Polish Parliament. And I am grateful for such important work”, – said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
He also thanked Mrs. Elzbieta Witek for her powerful speech in support of Ukraine at the OSCE PA and for her participation in the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform.
“You have sent a clear signal to the world about the position of Poland. It is very important for us that we together achieve the cessation of russia’s participation in all international platforms. We will reach the point step by step where the terrorist will be isolated,” the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed.
He also called on his colleagues from the Polish Sejm to make very important decisions for Ukraine – to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33, organized by the predecessor of the USSR, as genocide of the Ukrainian people and to adopt a resolution on the recognition of russia as a state that supports terrorism.
“Today the words “russia” and “terrorism” have become synonymous for the whole world. And now we need to make efforts to make the words “russia” and “genocide” synonymous, because this is what Russia is doing to the Ukrainian people in Ukraine now,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The parties also paid much attention to countering russian armed aggression and consolidation of efforts to support Ukraine. Separately, they discussed the issues of energy security in Ukraine and strengthening our air and missile defence.
Also, on behalf of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine presented a high state award – the Order of Merit of the II degree to the Vice Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Mr. Ryszard Terlecki “for a significant personal contribution to strengthening the international authority of Ukraine, the development of interstate cooperation, and fruitful public activity”.
“Poland’s contribution to the approach of our Victory is an example of fraternal interstate relations. And strategic partnership with the Republic of Poland remains a constant priority of Ukraine,” emphasized Ruslan Stefanchuk at the end of the meeting.
