“Ukraine feels and sees the support of the world – true friends are always there for us!” stressed the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko stressed during a working meeting with a delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Ukraine of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria headed by the Chairman Helmut Brandstatter.
The First Vice Speaker noted that the dynamic development of interparliamentary dialogue between Ukraine and Austria continues: “We are grateful for the support of all initiatives as adopted resolutions and statements condemning the war of the russian federation and the crimes committed by its troops in Ukraine”.
“Now we are doing our homework as candidates for the European Union membership. But next year our goal is to start negotiations for accession and to become members of the European community,” stressed Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that he counts on further support of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine by the relevant parliamentary friendship groups.
In addition, the First Deputy Chairman raised the issue of the importance of recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people, expressing hope that the Austrian side will make the appropriate decision. “I had the opportunity to emphasize the importance of recognizing russia as a state-terrorist or sponsor of terrorism, because the country confirms this by its actions as massive attacks and shelling, which cause a critical situation and consequences beyond Ukraine,” he added.
At the same time, the First Vice Speaker expressed gratitude to Austria for the prompt assistance to Ukraine. In particular, he thanked for the provision of transformers to overcome the problematic issues of restoration related to the russian missile energy and infrastructure terror. He also noted Austria’s participation in the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi “Grain from Ukraine”: “Despite the difficult conditions, Ukraine is helping African countries together with its partners that also need support in this difficult situation.”
“Joint actions, joint decisions, joint pressure – together we will stop the aggressor and achieve peace, which Ukraine’s victory will lead to,” concluded the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko.
