Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk congratulated the European community on the anniversary of the entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty, which founded the EU.
The Treaty was signed on February 7, 1992 and entered into force on November 1, 1993.
“I congratulate the EU and all EU member states for having found the wisdom to unite together. Because, as practice has shown, unification is the only way to ensure the protection of values: justice, the rule of law, security and development,” Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized, adding that Ukraine, as a primordially European state, also seeks to join the EU.
He reminded that the Constitution of Ukraine enshrines the strategic course for membership in the EU and NATO, on June 23 this year Ukraine received the status of candidate for EU membership, and on July 1 the EU Flag appeared in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“The President of Ukraine, the Government, the Parliament are doing everything to fulfil the requirements of the European Commission and start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU by the end of the year. After that, there will be a difficult work: with the parliaments, governments, leaders of the EU member states to ensure that we get 27 “yes” for Ukraine!” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized.
