Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk commented on the preparation for the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, which will be held on October 25-27 in Zagreb, Croatia.
He expressed his deep gratitude to Croatian colleagues who joined and took on a great burden of organizational work, as the security situation prevents the event from being held in Ukraine.
According to him, the Summit is an important link at the stage implementing the strategic decisions of world leaders directly at the level of world parliaments.
"These decisions should be implemented through the adoption of legislative acts. Therefore, it is important that the speakers of the parliaments of the countries of the world have the opportunity to discuss both the Crimean issue as a whole and to hold discussions about the global security system. This is, in fact, a continuation of the conversation that we have started together with our colleagues at the G7 speakers' meeting," the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized, adding that the speakers will produce the decisions of the Summit at the level of their parliaments and this is "an important support for Ukraine at the level of direct representative democracy."
He also emphasized that the relevant resolution of the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform will be adopted based on its results.
"As of now, this resolution is being worked out together with those partners who have already declared their participation. It will start with the issues of Crimea and, in particular, will touch on issues related to the reform of the global security system in the world," explained Ruslan Stefanchuk, emphasizing that "Crimea is a vivid example of how the laws and principles of international law have begun to be neglected. It is very important for us that this trend is stopped, and that Crimea returns home to Ukraine."
