The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk met in Brussels with the President of the European Parliament, "sincere friend and sister of Ukraine" Roberta Metsola.

The meeting took place within the framework of the meeting of female speakers of the European Union countries' parliaments, in which, on the invitation of the President of the European Parliament, the Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk took part.

"I am very grateful to Ms. Roberta for her personal participation in the meeting of female speakers of EU parliaments.  She pays a lot of attention to solving the humanitarian crisis caused by the russian invasion of Ukraine.  We greatly appreciate Roberta Metsola's efforts and leadership in helping and caring for Ukrainian women and children sheltered by the European Union," said Olena Kondratiuk.

"All national parliaments of the EU countries and European parliamentarians should think today about what else can be done for Ukraine and how to help Ukrainians," Roberta Metsola emphasized during the meeting.  She noted that she will keep on convincing the European leaders to immediately provide Ukraine with modern heavy weapons and defense systems.  According to the President of the European Parliament, this should be a strong and joint response of the European Union to the brutal mass missile attacks by russia on Ukrainian cities.

"I agree with the President of the European Parliament that only the ability of Ukraine to defend itself, and not the appeasement of the aggressor, is a real way to establish peace," Olena Kondratiuk emphasized.

The parties also discussed the need for consistent punishment of war criminals from the russian federation at the International Criminal Court.

"Separately, I appealed to Mrs. President Roberta Metsola with an urgent question to facilitate, at the level of the European Parliament, every EU country parliament's officially recognizing russia as a terrorist state.  It's time to act decisively, speak the truth and call things and crimes of the russian federation by their proper names," summed up the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk.
