Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratyuk, while on a working trip in Brussels, discussed the issue of legislative support for the European integration of Ukraine as a candidate country for EU membership with the representatives of the European Commission.
This was discussed during the meeting of the Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament with Mr. Georg Ziegler, Deputy Head of the Support Group for Ukraine, DG NEAR, European Commission.
The parties discussed the implementation by Ukraine, as a candidate state for EU membership, of the seven main recommendations of the European Commission and the process of adapting Ukrainian legislation to European directives and standards.
"The Verkhovna Rada approaches these tasks responsibly and systematically. Together with the Government, we plan to adopt a large package of European integration laws by the end of the year. This will open the way to the start of direct negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU," Olena Kondratiuk informed.
She also emphasized that in each committee of the Ukrainian Parliament, subcommittees were created on the issues of adaptation of the legislation of Ukraine to the provisions of EC law. "Their activity is designed to improve the quality of law-making in this direction," the Deputy Speaker added.
The participants of the meeting also discussed in detail the "On Media" draft law, which is being prepared for the second reading.
"Compliance of this draft law with the EU directive on audiovisual services is one of the main recommendations for Ukraine to acquire the status of a candidate country. We are waiting for the conclusions of the European Commission regarding this draft law," said Olena Kondratiuk.
At the same time, Georg Ziegler noted that the European Commission is ready to provide the Verkhovna Rada with all the necessary expert support and assistance so that Ukraine quickly but qualitatively goes through the process of adapting legislation to European standards and fulfills the 7 recommendations of the European Commission.
"I am grateful for the cooperation of the entire Support Group for Ukraine of the European Commission," the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized.
