On 30 July 2009, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, will take part in the ceremony of award presentation to the winners of the successful community contest organized by the Ukrainian Social Investments Fund within the scope of the grant of the Japanese government.
47 of the most successful communities from all the regions of Ukraine will be presented with the sets of equipment (medical, computer, audio and stage equipment).
For reference: The government of Japan conferred the grant in the amount of $1,7 million to the Ukrainian Social Investments Fund in 2006 to develop the potential of the most underprivileged communities of Ukraine in the settlement of local problems. Within the scope of the project, the Ukrainian Social Investments Fund held almost 600 trainings and 200 practical consultations with the participation of the representatives of rural communities and local authority bodies of 78 districts of all the regions of Ukraine.
In the result of the campaign, the number of initiatives of community residents raised, new structures of the self-organization of the population were formed, the number of active population increased.
