During the working visit, the First Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniyenko, visited Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University and got acquainted with the work of the institution.

The First Vice-Speaker stressed that the future of higher education in Ukraine depends on several factors: “First is security. Therefore, the first task for the central and local authorities, and the management of educational institutions, is to take care of the safety of students during their studies. "

"The second factor is the conscription of students and teachers. To rebuild and boost the economy, the country needs skilled professionals. They need to be prepared now," Oleksandr Korniyenko said, recalling that in April, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine exempted students and teachers from vocational education institutions from mobilization in order to ensure continuous training in vocational (technical) education institutions.

Also, during the working visit, the First Vice-Speaker, together with the Rector Viktor Yevdokymov, visited the educational building and modern classrooms of the institution and talked with the university management. In particular, they discussed the problems and the future of higher education in Ukraine, as one of the most critical issues is admission to higher education institutions this year.

"Millions of Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes because of the war.  Pupils and students left their home schools and universities. They continued their studies online from other cities or countries. Many have not yet returned. Many simply have nowhere to return.  Hence, the global task is to enable young people to study and get an education at home in Ukraine,” the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament concluded.
