Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk thanked the Seimas of Lithuania for unanimously adopting a resolution recognizing the forced displacement of Ukrainian citizens to russia by the occupiers as deportation of Ukrainian people.
The Lithuanian Parliament adopted such a resolution at its sitting on 16 June. Lithuanian deputies have condemned the expulsion and forcible deportation to russia or the territory under its temporary control of more than a million civilians in Ukraine.
The resolution emphasizes that these actions were committed to destroy the Ukrainian identity and carry out violent assimilation. The Lithuanian Seimas pointed out that 200,000 Ukrainian minors were deported. This is a violation of the rights and freedoms of children guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Hague, and Geneva Conventions.
Deputies of the Lithuanian Parliament also called on the world community to take responsibility for these crimes.
"The Verkhovna Rada is grateful to the Seimas of Lithuania for its solidarity with the Ukrainian people and its uncompromising position on condemning russia's crimes against Ukrainian citizens. It was a great honor for me to speak in the Lithuanian Seimas in early May, the day of the decision to recognize the genocide of the Ukrainian people committed by russia," said the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
According to her, our peoples know and feel firsthand what the crimes of totalitarian regimes are.
"With the new vote on the recognition of the deportation of Ukrainians, the Lithuanian Parliament has once again shown its commitment to supporting Ukraine, universal and European values," Olena Kondratiuk said.
