The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, met with the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg. They discussed the position of Austria and other countries on Ukraine's candidacy for EU membership.
"The importance of this trip is that we gave the opportunity to hear each other and get to know Ukraine better. And I was open and sincere with all my colleagues, I thanked those who support us, and answered the questions of those who have some skeptical fears," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
He reminded that on June 17 the European Commission will announce a decision on Ukraine's application for EU membership.
"We look forward to this report and understand that Ukraine still needs to implement many reforms. However, Ukraine has a fantastic window of opportunity to carry out all the reforms that were previously blocked or not on time. Because there is political support, support in society, and international support," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine invited the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs to visit Ukraine.
"If there is an opportunity, I will be very happy to receive you in Kyiv, in the Parliament," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Alexander Schallenberg accepted the invitation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and announced that he would pay a visit to Ukraine in July this year.
He noted that Austria will not interfere with granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
The Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria stressed that he absolutely condemns aggression and supports Ukraine's right to freedom and security, because all this is in line with international law, the UN Charter. He is impressed by the courage shown by the Ukrainian people and will do everything in his power to support Ukraine and help it.
"I am convinced that it is very important for us to convey to you the message that our efforts and efficiency will not decline," said Alexander Schallenberg.
