"We greatly appreciate Slovenia's support at this difficult time, when the russian federation is waging a full-scale war against Ukraine," Olena Kondratiuk said.
"Your visit as a high representative of unconquered Ukraine is significant and symbolic for Slovenia," Borut Pahor noted during a working meeting.
He also said that parliamentary elections had recently taken place in Slovenia, which resulted in the election of a parliament and the formation of a new government. “Therefore, it is important that thanks to your visit, the successful Ukrainian-Slovenian dialogue has continued almost without interruption," the Slovenian President added.
Olena Kondratiuk thanked Slovenia for supporting Ukraine's European aspirations: especially significant is the role of President Borut Pahor, who, on February 28, 2022, signed an open letter from European leaders in support of Ukraine's European aspirations. The letter was initiated by the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
"We cannot repeat mistakes of the past. Ukraine must become an integral part of the European community," Borut Pahor said.
In a conversation with the President of Slovenia, Olena Kondratiuk also noted that granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership at the end of June this year is in the interests of both Ukraine and the European Union. We are glad that the views of Kyiv and Ljubljana coincide on this issue as well.
The participants discussed the situation at the frontline.
"At the same time, the President of Slovenia was interested in the prospects of the negotiation process. Stressed that Ukraine will not hold talks with the aggressor until russian troops withdraw at least to the line on February 24, as President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated," said the Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
"By attacking Ukraine, Russia has made the wrong decision," said Slovenian President Borut Pahor.
