Deputy Chairwoman Olena Kondratiuk: Spain will maintain the unity of the EU for Ukraine to receive the status of a candidate for EU membership

Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Olena Kondratiuk, met with the Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Meritxell Batet Lamana

According to the Vice Speaker, the Verkhovna Rada and the Spanish Parliament are joining forces to support Ukraine's European integration aspirations, in particular, obtaining candidate status for Ukraine.

She informed the Speaker of the Spanish Congress that Ukraine promptly and professionally filled out the necessary questionnaires and submitted them to the European Commission.

“We are optimistic about the EC conclusions on these documents and look forward to a positive and therefore fair decision of the European Council on June 23-24 this year," emphasized Olena Kondratiuk.

 "The Spanish government will maintain the unity of the EU in the issue of obtaining Ukraine's candidate status for accession to the European Union," Ms. Batet said.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine noted that Ukraine understands that this is the first step towards full membership in the European Union and a lot of responsible work ahead:

“Therefore, we will gladly accept Spain's recommendations and practical experience gained on the way to the EU."

“We are ready to share with you the experience of Spain in implementing reforms that will lead Ukraine to EU membership," assured Meritxell Batet Lamana, Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies.
