Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Olena Kondratiuk: We unite the efforts of the parliaments of Ukraine and Spain towards Ukraine's candidacy for the EU membership

"Spain and the Spaniards support Ukraine's desire to become part of the European family. We are uniting the efforts of the Parliaments of Ukraine and Spain to nominate our country for EU membership," noted Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during a working meeting with Susana Sumelzo Jordan, Chair of the Joint Committee of the Spanish Congress and Senate representatives of Spanish parliamentary political parties.
On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament thanked the leadership and deputies of both chambers of the Spanish Parliament for their statements in support of Ukraine. «Spanish parliamentarians strongly supported Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They officially condemned the Russian invasion and called for the complete withdrawal of the occupying forces from our territory,» Olena Kondratiuk stated. She also added that decisions and statements on the need for financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine from the EU were adopted.
«Much attention has been paid to providing the best living conditions for Ukrainians seeking temporary protection in Spain," the Deputy Chairwoman said.
During the working meeting with Ms. Sumelzo Jordan, it was emphasized that the unanimity in supporting the need for Ukraine's membership in the EU prevails in both chambers of the Spanish Parliament. "Spain and the Spaniards believe in our victory and support Ukraine's accession to the European Union," Olena Kondratiuk reported.
"The only possible option now is to defeat Russia. Ukraine's victory must be strengthened by Ukraine's entry into the European family. This should be a clear signal to Putin that full EU solidarity prevails concerning Ukraine," assured Susana Sumelzo Jordan.
"The Spanish Parliament admires the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the courage of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor. The courage of your army and people is impressive. We admire you, " summed up Ms. Sumelzo Jordan.
