"Together with the Marshal of the Polish Sejm Elzbieta Vitek, they called on the leaders of the five EU parliaments to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union in June this year," said Olena Kondratyuk, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine noted that this was a joint address to colleagues from the parliaments of Spain, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, and Austria during a video conference of women speakers of European parliaments in Warsaw.
"Ukraine deserves its sacrifice and struggle to be part of a large European family. The price we pay for our independence, territorial integrity, our European choice, and the right to become a member of the EU is big and bloody, "said Olena Kondratyuk.
In addition, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated that Ukraine is well aware that after receiving candidate status it must do its homework to achieve high EU standards. Ukraine is ready for this and will work hard to achieve this goal.
"Today Ukraine is fighting not only for its own but also for European freedom and independence!" - stressed, for her part, Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Elzbieta Vitek.
"Together with the Marshal of the Polish Sejm, we are aware that today the whole of Europe needs unity and determination in unconditionally granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership in June 2022.
