The necessity of amending the Law of Ukraine on the elections of the president is apparent. Oleksandr Lavrynovych, First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made the above-mentioned statement during the discussion of the Bill on Amendments to certain Legislative Acts concerning Elections of the President of Ukraine.
The First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that effective regulations make it impossible to hold the elections on the legal grounds, as a number of institutions that are to provide the electoral campaign, according to the effective version of the Law, do not exist at all.
Dwelling upon the reduction of the period of election campaign from 120 to 90 days, the First Vice-Chairman stated: "It is the matter of reasonability, as the overwhelming majority of the deputies agreed to fact that it is reasonable to reduce the campaign in order to save the budget funds and relieve the tension of Ukraine in the time of the election campaign".
As far as the critical remarks regarding the register of electors are concerned, O.Lavrynovych supposes that the register fails to operate in the necessary on-line mode.
According to O.Lavrynovych, "either the register should work perfectly, in an on-line mode or other methods should be looked for".
The First Vice-Chairman believes that the amendments to the Law of Ukraine on elections will secure the holding of fair elections.
