V.Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: The Increase of the Minimum Wage and Minimum Living Wage will be ineffective, unless the Budget is altered

V.Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, informed about the results of work of the Conciliative Council on Friday. The Conciliative Council was held during the recess announced due the blocking of the lectern by the representatives of the Party of Regions who demanded that the Law on the increase of the minimum wage and minimum living wage be adopted that day.

V.Lytvyn stated that "the said proposal was introduced by the Party of Regions to be scrutinized for the second time, as it was not supported yesterday". In his turn, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine suggested "voting for the Bill under the shortened procedure, and drafting it for the second reading till the next plenary week". "To receive proposals and find common standpoints, it is necessary to set up a working group with the participation of the budget Committee, initiators of the proposals, other profile Committees participating in the elaboration of the Bill, and members of the Government. However, it is even more necessary to alter the budget, as the said resolution will be ineffective, unless the budget is amended. It will be the instrument of propaganda", - he stressed.

According to V.Lytvyn, the Party of regions did not uphold his proposal.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that the consultations would be continued and closed the morning meeting on 26 June 2009. The next plenary week will start on 6 July.
