Pursuant to the Bill (Reg. No. 4431), the disabled children of war shall be entitled to the hospital medical treatment at the hospitals for war veterans, provided the vacant places and corresponding prescriptions are available.

The authors of the Bill stressed that according to the Law "On the Social Security of the Children of War", the citizens of Ukraine who were under-aged at the time the World War II was concluded (2 September 1945) were entitled to obtain the legal status of the children of war.   However, the effective Law fails to envisage any privileges in the medical treatment of the said category of population.

Almost 470 thousand of the disabled children of war are currently living in Ukraine. These are seniors (64-82 years of age), who are sick and often lonely, have several chronic diseases and need medical treatment which they can not afford (the average pension amounts to 816 UAH).

The People´s Deputies believe that the hospitals for war veterans that operate in every region and render free medical treatment to the war veterans are the only medical establishments to help the disabled children of war.
