"The fight against COVID-19, tariffs, land, overcoming poverty and unemployment - that's what really worries citizens today and requires a reaction from the Parliament and the Government," Olena Kondratiuk

Honoring the memory of the victims and the feat of the liquidators of the Chornobyl accident, we should not forget about the lessons of the Chornobyl disaster, in particular, about energy security. Olena Kondratyuk, Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, drew attention to this during the Conciliation Councils of Deputy Factions and Groups.

She noted that there is still no Minister of Energy in the Government, and previous acting Ministers were remembered for raising tariffs, rather than strategy and effective decisions.

"So far, the Government has not clearly formulated a waiver of Russian nuclear fuel, has not explained what we will do with the waste from nuclear power plants, the development of the industry. I would like to finally hear a professional candidate for this position, with a clear action plan," Olena Kondratiuk stressed.

According to her, we must draw conclusions both from the tragedies of the past and from the defeats and failures of the present.

"Therefore, the Government must already think today about the conclusions from the failed start of vaccination, how to buy enough vaccines for Ukrainians for re-vaccination. Vaccination passports will also be needed, according to the European Union. I hope the Government will hear the Verkhovna Rada on these issues," Olena Kondratiuk stressed.

The Vice Speaker also once again drew attention to the lack of the new Government strategy to combat poverty in Ukraine, as the previous one lost its relevance - its action ended in 2020.

She also appealed to the Government and the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada to clarify the situation with the authorities' intentions to cancel the free privatization of land.

According to the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, all these issues concern the society and this should be the agenda of the Parliament and the Government, which is accountable and under its control.
