The Committee on Science and Education held a Round Table Discussion to discuss the Current State and Prospects of Development of Technological Parks and Innovation Establishments of other Types in Ukraine

The discussion was held at the Ye.O.Paton Institute of Electric Welding under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine within the scope of preparation for the parliamentary hearings "Strategy of Innovation Development of Ukraine for 2010-2020 under the conditions of the Challenges of Globalization" scheduled for 17 June 2009.  

 

Volodymyr Polokhalo, Committee Chairman, stated that "activity of technological parks, actually the only innovation establishments in the country, has been currently suspended". According to the Committee Chairman, there were no innovation projects registered in 2005-2006, and only six projects were registered in 2008, however, they have not been implemented yet.

 

The participants of the round table discussion stressed the necessity to render governmental assistance to the scientific institutions. 

 

The participants also discussed experience of the leading countries in the field of support of science and innovation activity, especially use of tax benefits. Thus, it was stated that the United States of America intended to introduce permanent tax benefits for the scientific institutions.

 

Adoption of the Innovation System Conception also becomes a topical issue.
