On this day, 311 years ago, Hetman Pylyp Orlyk adopted the "Pacts and Constitutions of Rights and Freedoms of the Zaporizhian Host." Later, this document will go down in history as the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk.
Despite the fact that the modern Constitution of Ukraine differs from the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, they have one thing in common - both documents testify to the need of society to live by the law. After all, respect for human rights and freedoms is a guarantee for the development of society.
The adoption of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk marked the establishment of the legal framework at that time. The document laid down the ideas of the division of power into legislative, executive and judicial, outlined the powers of the hetman and formed the principles for building the state.
And although the ideals enshrined in the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk were not fully implemented in practice, it became a crucial political act for the future of the Ukrainian state. Because it gave impetus to the formation of Ukrainian political and legal consciousness and became a clear evidence of political will for state-building activities.
