Effectively countering COVID-19 in Ukraine is possible only by combining the efforts of central and local authorities, society and the media. This was stated by Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov.
"Today, we must all take a united stand on the need to work together and understand everyone's responsibility. I am talking about myself as a person, a politician, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, and about you as journalists, and about society in general," he said.
The Speaker stressed that the issue of combating the coronavirus should be devoid of a political component. According to him, parliamentary factions and groups in the Parliament manage to postpone the policy and make the necessary decisions by consensus and by abbreviated procedure.
"There must be a quick reaction from the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance. There should be a concerted effort at both the center and regional levels. If everyone moves in their own direction, it will not work," Dmytro Razumkov said.
"Because it is impossible to perform all tasks only at the level of the central government or to reduce the incidence rates only by local authorities without the support of the central authorities," he added.
According to the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, a responsible position of business and citizens is also needed on the issue of compliance with quarantine restrictions.
"Unfortunately, today we see that quarantine restrictions are being ignored. Often, citizens do not comply with the basic requirements that would protect, first of all, them and their loved ones," he explained.
According to Dmytro Razumkov, it is also important to acknowledge the mistakes that were made in the fight against COVID-19. In particular, he added that there are questions about the implementation of the communication strategy for vaccination.
"We should not try to shift the responsibility on each other. Because with such "ping-pong", we can lose the most important in our country - people's lives," said the Speaker of the Parliament.
