The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine continues to carry out parliamentary reform. This was stated by Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament Dmytro Razumkov during the video conference with former European Parliament President Pat Cox and European Parliament Rapporteur on Ukraine Michael Gahler.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada noted that in early March a touch-button for personal voting of MPs was introduced. Its main goal is to completely prevent ‘button-pressing’ in the session hall of the Parliament.

Dmytro Razumkov reminded that the Law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Concerning Ensuring Effective Implementation of Parliamentary Control” had recently been adopted, thanks to which MPs receive better information from officials. In addition, the draft law on the opposition was included in the plan of legislative work of the Parliament, which is still being drafted.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada noted that the draft law “On Parliamentary Service” had already been adopted as a basis. “The adoption of this law can significantly increase the institutional component in the activities of the Parliament, make the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada the more effective mechanism for parliamentary work,” he said.

According to Dmytro Razumkov, in the conditions of the spread of coronavirus disease, the Parliament managed to maintain the stability of work and thanks to the political consensus to promptly adopt the necessary bills. Thus, the e-declaration system was preserved and the work of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption was resumed, and the necessary amendments to the legislation aimed at supporting the population in the conditions of changing tariff policy were voted on. Also, laws related to countering coronavirus were promptly adopted.
