Of the 20 legislative acts related to the fight against COVID-19, 13 were adopted by a majority of the constitutional composition of the Parliament of Ukraine. This was stated by First Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk at the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses.”
According to him, the activities of the Parliament of Ukraine in the fight against COVID-19 were aimed at four main areas.
“The first is to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Parliament of Ukraine introduced mandatory testing of persons with COVID-19 signs, determined the conditions of entry into Ukraine and departure of citizens from the quarantine zone, provided the opportunity to work remotely, created conditions for the development of disinfectant and antiseptic drugs, imposed penalties for violations quarantine rules and others,” told the First Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.  Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that the second block concerned the creation of conditions for providing medical care to patients with COVID-19; the third block concerned the social protection of medical and other health care workers. The fourth block, according to the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, concerned overcoming the negative economic consequences of the pandemic for small and medium-sized businesses.
It took the Ukrainian parliament two weeks to form the first package of response to the crisis. The MP believes that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has coped with this.  He is convinced that the decisions made are not perfect, because “the world first encountered the pandemic of such magnitude.” “However, as practice has shown, the Parliament of Ukraine is able to respond quickly to new challenges,” the politician stressed.
“We are ready to take further measures to combat COVID-19. The Parliament of Ukraine understands the importance of overcoming the crisis in the country caused by the coronavirus and is open to debate. We are ready to work together with the ministries, with the representatives of the civil society in order to overcome the consequences of the coronavirus,” the First Deputy Chairperson of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized.
