On December 2, 2020, a meeting of the Bureau of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was held, the agenda of which included an address by the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama from the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, President of the OSCE PA George Tsereteli. There was also a discussion on current international political issues and priorities of the Assembly for 2021.
Deputy Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Artur Gerasymov participated in the meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bureau, the 27th OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting and related events as a member of the OSCE PA Bureau.
In his speech, Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, especially during the crisis. He noted that during Albania's presidency, it was necessary to adapt to virtual and hybrid meetings during the Coronavirus and to ensure the continuation of the OSCE's work in order to meet the priorities of the presidency, including building stability in the region.
As part of the debate on current international political issues and the Assembly's priorities for 2021, members of the Bureau raised issues related to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, eastern Ukraine, the elections in Belarus, the situation after the elections in Georgia and Moldova and the need for the Assembly to focus on resolving conflicts in the OSCE region as a top priority for 2021.
During the discussion on current international events, Artur Gerasymov informed the members of the Bureau about the initiatives of the Ukrainian side within the Tripartite Contact Group and the desire to intensify work in the Normandy Quartet format.
The Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Delegation informed about the non-fulfillment by the Russian Federation of the "Minsk Agreements" and non-promotion of the permanent ceasefire regime and the denial of access by members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to illegally detained persons in the temporarily occupied territories.
Among other things, Artur Gerasimov informed the members of the Bureau about the recent initiative of Ukraine “Crimean Platform” and about the plans to hold the “Crimean Platform” Summit in 2021.
