Volodymyr Lytvyn: the Law on Special Status of Sevastopol should be adopted

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine apples to the Chairmen of the Parliamentary Factions in order to hasten the adoption of the Bill on the special status of Sevastopol city in the first reading hence the proves of its coordination and elaboration would be started.

"My position is fully determined the law on special status of Sevastopol should be adopted, at least in the first reading in order it should be elaborated later", - V. Lytvyn emphasized during the pres conference in Sevastopol. Sticking point in the case, according to V. Lytvyn is election of the city mayor by the Sevastopol citizens. "Some leaders fear now that someone not suitable for them would be elected. Still, I am convinced that the citizens would not lose and elect the right person", - he stressed.

It was mentioned not for the firs time already that the existence of the city administrations is unwarranted; V. Lytvyn expressed for the councils elections that would nominate executive committees. He also announced that the city mayor should be elected only by direct vote.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared that the main initiative should be proceed form he biggest factions in the Parliament Party of Regions and Yulia Tymoshenko Block. According to him the Constitution should be changed o suit the political power positioning but it should be fulfilled with real content. The Main Law envisages that Kyiv and Sevastopol should possess special status.
