Mykola Tomenko: Administrative-Territorial Reform can be held only by Consent of the Parliament and Local Self-Government
At the briefing, the Vice-Chairman informed the journalists that, pursuant to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers, educational-methodological seminars dedicated to the enhancement of administrative and territorial order and local self-government would be held in the regions in 2009.
According to M.Tomenko, the said concept promoted by the President´s Secretariat and the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction envisages curtailment of the number of village councils, and further revision of administrative and territorial division until liquidation of regions, as presupposed by the Draft Constitution of Ukraine submitted by the President of Ukraine.
The Vice-Chairman expressed his surprise with the fact that although the heads of regional councils and the majority of mayors neglected recent National municipals hearings, the reform was still being implemented.
