“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should pool all the efforts and do its utmost so that thousands of families affected by the floods would not be left to the mercy of fate suffering in silence,” -- Olena Kondratiuk, Vice Speaker

The Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk emphasized the need for a rapid and consolidated response of the authorities towards overcoming the aftermath of the floods in western Ukraine, as well as recompensing the affected citizens for the damages and losses incurred.

"As the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, we must unite and do our best so that thousands of families affected by the floods would not be left to the mercy of fate suffering in silence. This is not the problem of certain regions - it is a natural disaster at the national level,” Olena Kondratiuk stressed.

“I am convinced that we have to take bold actions. If this requires immediate changes to the State Budget for 2020, we are obliged to do so in the shortest possible time. Today, the Verkhovna Rada must show its leadership and responsibility to people who are in trouble,” O. Kondratiuk stated.

The Vice Speaker also called on the Government and the Ministry of Education to address the issue of external independent evaluation for those children who had failed to participate due to the floods.

On behalf of the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk thanked the rescuers, the National Guard, and the volunteers - all those who had responded and come to extend a helping hand to the people of the devastated areas.
