The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is hammering away at a comprehensive parliamentary education programme and its ancillary mobile app.

On June 25, there was held a meeting focused on the development of the comprehensive parliamentary education programme (PEP) and the mobile application aimed to better perceive, interpret and understand the parliamentary work. The programme is to be finalized by the end of 2020 and is targeted at schoolchildren, students, teachers and adults.

  • The Chief of Staff of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Viacheslav Shtuchnyi noted that it is extremely important to promote awareness of the work and functions of the Parliament. "The programme would help explain the specifics of the Parliament in an interesting and modern way. Creative ways of informing and interacting with citizens are inherent in most parliaments of the world, so it is important to introduce them in everyday work of the Verkhovna Rada," V. Shtuchnyi illustrated.
  • Nataliia Vatamaniuk, a UNDP e-government and transparency expert, declared that the main task of the PEP programme is to explain to citizens how the Parliament works, how they can interact and influence its decisions, what MPs do and so on.
  • Iryna Horlach (GoGlobal volunteers coordinator) and Liubov Zaliubovska (project manager) from NGO “Global Office” presented some practicable and useful instruments that might be elaborated and introduced for the programme eventually. In particular, the comprehensive programme provides for the development of a mobile application of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, launching a nationwide network of parliamentary ambassadors, updated interactive tours and lessons, extracurricular activities for schoolchildren, special-purpose activities for the Verkhovna Rada’s educational centre.

Participants of the meeting discussed then likely forms and content of the VRU mobile app in question.
