The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is going to switch over to its brand new official web-portal. The updated portal of Parliament - www.rada.gov.ua - starts its working.

Goals:

For once, the web developers have set themselves some ambitious goals - to increase the website traffic by providing up-to-date, high-quality and well-ordered information; to incarnate the positive user experience learned; to ensure the portal’s inclusiveness; to provide an effective channel of communication with citizens; to ensure maximum transparency of parliamentary work. Another goal of great importance is to increase the portal’s presence on social networks, as they are a powerful source of traffic as well.

Essential novelties:

The updated web-portal has been reinforced with such important things as adaptivity to mobile devices, the main page that finely showcases parliamentary activities, search- and social media-focused services, and inclusiveness as a proper, intrinsic standard.

  • So, how does the new VRU’s portal look like now?

-Main page-

A user's attention is focused on the three frontline screens that mirror daily picks worthy of note out of the parliament’s everyday routine, including top news.

-Plenary activities cluster-

The "plenary activity” block has been significantly improved. It has become active, showing a crawl line with clearly visible results and structure of recent votes.

-Streaming media-

The online broadcasting facility has been placed into a separate block.

-eRegistration unit-

The revamped MP electronic registration module does legibly show a current occupancy rate of the Verkhovna Rada’s conference hall.

-Events calendar-

The events calendar page has become far handier, equally suitable for desktop and mobile devices.

-News cluster-

This block has been dichotomized into two sections – a “top-news” unit (four blocks on the first screen) and a “news and publications” one. Available also there is a quick access to latest news of committees and announcements.

-Media centre-

A brand new section to accumulate all the news and multimedia content of the Verkhovna Rada.

-External links usability-

The website is alive with multiple links to public authorities’ pages, other sites, materials and documents, archives, catalogues and the like. The developers have introduced a set of solutions for the shaping a high quality information channel that is designed for improving the user experience.

-Citizens vs MPs intercommunication-

Of the same strength there remained to be the channels and feedback forms designed for fast communications between the citizenry and members of Parliament. These instruments are actively used at present and with the launch of the new website they are expected to achieve a steady rise.

Follow-up steps

As further steps to update the parliamentary website, there should be conducting a SEO analysis and making recommendations for its improvement, reshaping the support service that would correspond to monitoring data obtained, and proper upgrading of interlink websites.
