Mykola Tomenko: We must learn to protect our National Dignity
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Bill "On Amendments to Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (re Enhancement of Criminal Responsibility for Violation of the State Symbols of Ukraine) (Reg. No.1049) submitted by Mykola Tomenko and Volodymyr Moisyk, People´s Deputies of Ukraine, at the First Reading.
Pursuant to the Bill (Reg. No.1049), sanction of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine that envisages criminal responsibility for violation of the State symbols (the National Flag of Ukraine, the State Emblem of Ukraine or the National Anthem of Ukraine) is supplemented with a new type of penalty in the form of imprisonment for the period till two years.
M.Tomenko stressed that the Bill was adopted in order to establish adequate criminal responsibility for violation of the State symbols of Ukraine, and prevent such crimes.
228 People´s Deputies out of 437 registered endorsed the Bill at the First Reading.
