Mykola Tomenko: Ukrainian Society is Religiously Tolerant and Lenient
On Thursday, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, took part in the press conference "Importance of Religion in the Life of Ukrainian Society" held by Kyiv International Sociology Institute, Institute of Politics and the Center "Social Indicators".
At the press conference M.Tomenko stated that Ukraine´s accession to the International Social Survey Program (ISSP) that united 45 countries and publication of the survey "Religion and Religiosity in Ukraine" were of great importance.
"Firstly, the said survey demonstrated that Ukrainian society is religiously tolerant and lenient", - he stated. Secondly, it is important for Mykola Tomenko that "absolute majority of respondents are convinced that religion should be beyond the influence of politics and authorities".
